AC Maintenance & Cooling Tune-Ups

Cooling-season AC maintenance from HVAC Done Right: coil cleaning, refrigerant and airflow verification, electrical checks, and drain service before Central Texas heat arrives.

Open 24/7, every day

AC maintenance is cooling-specific work. The goal is to get your air conditioner through a Central Texas summer without a mid-August failure, and to keep it moving air efficiently while it does.

This page covers cooling equipment. If you want one visit that covers both the cooling and heating sides of the system through the year, see whole-system HVAC maintenance.

What a cooling tune-up covers

  • Condenser coil cleaning, because a dirty coil raises pressures and energy use
  • Evaporator coil and blower wheel inspection
  • Refrigerant charge verification by measurement, not topping off by habit
  • Capacitor and contactor testing against rated values before they fail
  • Amp draw readings on the compressor and fan motors
  • Condensate drain clearing and float switch test
  • Temperature split and airflow check across the coil
  • Thermostat calibration and cycle test

When to schedule it

Spring, before the first stretch of triple-digit days. Marginal parts tend to hold on through mild weather and let go the first week the system runs all day. Catching a weak capacitor in April is a small item; catching it in August is an emergency call.

What you can do between visits

Change or clean the filter on the schedule the filter calls for, keep two feet of clear space around the outdoor unit, rinse grass clippings off the condenser coil with a gentle hose spray, and pour a cup of water into the condensate pan occasionally to confirm it drains.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in a maintenance visit?
Cleaning, measurement, and testing: coils, refrigerant charge, electrical components, motor amp draws, drains, airflow, and thermostat operation, plus a written summary of anything that needs attention.
How often should cooling equipment be serviced?
Once a year at minimum for cooling, ahead of summer. Homes with pets, heavy dust, or systems past ten years old benefit from attention on both the cooling and heating sides each year.
Does maintenance really lower my bill?
A clean coil, correct charge, and correct airflow all reduce the energy the system uses to deliver the same cooling. We will not promise a specific dollar figure, because it depends on your equipment, home, and usage.
