Open 24/7, every day

A heat pump is an air conditioner that can run in reverse, which makes it well suited to Central Texas where cooling dominates and the heating season is short. It also means it has a few failure modes a straight AC does not.

Heat pump problems we diagnose

  • Reversing valve faults that leave the system stuck in one mode
  • Defrost control and sensor problems that cause icing in cool, damp weather
  • Auxiliary or emergency heat running when it should not, driving up the electric bill
  • Weak heating output from low charge or a restricted coil
  • Outdoor fan and compressor failures
  • Thermostats that are not configured for heat pump staging

Normal behavior that worries homeowners

Heat pumps deliver warm air that is cooler than furnace air, so vents can feel lukewarm even when the system is working correctly. Steam rising from the outdoor unit during a defrost cycle is also normal. Continuous ice buildup, or auxiliary heat running in mild weather, is not.

Seasonal service

Because a heat pump runs year round, it accumulates roughly twice the operating hours of a cooling-only system. Service in both spring and fall keeps charge, defrost operation, and staging verified for the season ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my heat pump blowing cool air in heating mode?
Heat pump supply air is normally cooler than furnace air. If it is genuinely not warming the house, the likely causes are low charge, a reversing valve problem, or a defrost control fault.
Do you service heat pumps as well as furnaces?
Yes. Heat pump repair, replacement, and seasonal service are core work for us, including defrost and auxiliary heat controls.
Is ice on the outdoor unit in winter a problem?
A light frost that clears during a defrost cycle is normal. A unit encased in ice, or one that never clears, needs a technician.
